Gang Violence in American Schools Essay

Did you ever have to move because your kids were bullied at school? Is the community you are living in is unsafe with gang violence and you were afraid your kids will grow up to be a notorious gangster? You believe the ideal place to raise a family is in a higher income suburban area where the school system is better and your kids will be free from violence. You might want to think again. In fact, youth â€Å"gangs, now more violent than ever, are spreading to new locations† (Gaustad, 1 ) all across the country, including public schools. Gangs are moving suburban areas to recruit more members to expand their gang group. They are using new members to distribute drugs because it is appealing to young children and profitable. It is causing an increase in violence in schools because other gang group does not get along with another set of gang. Kids are scared to go to school because they are afraid they might get bullied and attack. The dropout rates has increase, more weapons are being brought to school endangering lives. School properties are being vandalized with school logos and teachers are getting injured from trying to intervene (Capozzoli and McVey, 81). Gang violence in school are getting worse that school officials, community members, and law enforcements are coming together to figure out solutions. The three solutions that seems to be showing a great impact in reducing gang violence in American schools are school uniforms, peer mediation programs, and after school programs. School uniforms are the first solution that will help cut back gang violence in American schools. Gangs use colors, certain types of clothing, and bandanas to symbolize what group they are from or associate themselves with. Students that are not involved in gangs are unable to walk down the school hallway without being accuse they are involve with a rival gang due to the color shirt he or she may be wearing. School uniforms are typically seen in private or foreign country’s schools to indicate a business-like atmosphere ( Skiba, 10). Now it is becoming more common in public schools because it keeps pupils in similar clothing. The typical school uniforms usually consist of khaki pants and collar shirts. Female pupils are sometimes in a skirt that goes down past their knees. The colors of the collar shirts vary depending on what schools students attend. School uniforms will end gang members from wearing clothing indicating what group they are from. This will help reduce violence between rival gangs because it will be difficult to point out what gang another student associate themselves with. Students will be able to concentrate more on learning than worrying about getting attack. Not only does uniform help reduce the violence but it also help schools bring unity together and help pupils who come from a family with financial difficulty feel less pressure to dress a certain way to fit in (Lopez, 4). The Long Beach Unified School District decided to establish a school uniform policy during the 1990’s to help pupils further their education in an elementary school. The school district had supports from parents who feared for their child’s safety while they were walking to school and mistaken to be a rival gang member due to the color clothing they were wearing. Violence has dropped 86% after the school uniform policy been established for 5 years (Lopez, 4). Murray states,† higher student ratings of the quality of school climate in schools with a uniform policy† after studies was done on two North Carolina schools (qtd. in Zero Tolerance, Zero Evidence, 10). The second solution are peer mediation programs. Peer mediation is a program that involves people who are chosen and educated to resolves issues between individuals that has dispute with one another. The program is used in schools, youth centers, and juvenile justice setting to help young people learn how to solve their conflict through talking it out instead of using violence. Peer mediation programs are used to help decrease lockdowns, suspensions, detentions, and to bring positive atmosphere. Instead of adults trying to diffuse the conflict between young people, the program gives students the ability to help their peer s figure out a solution to their conflict with one another. It also allows the disputers to be more open and able to express why they are conflicting with the other student. Young people tend to feel more comfortable and connect better with people their own age because they feel they won’t be judged. Students are the initiator of confrontations among other students. They have to be neutral and must go through training so they can understand the process. The process of peer mediation are broken down into six steps where the facilitator has to come up with rules that must be followed, hear both sides of the story, determine if it is the same issue causing the problem, suggest solutions that will fix the problem, make sure solution fits the goal of the outcome, and help dispute agree on a solution (Crawford and Bodine, 23). Classical high school in Lynn, Massachusetts has been using peer mediation program for 14 years now and feel that the program will help decrease violence in schools. The program is very important to the school that students have to put an application in and go through an interview process by the coordinator of the program, Miriam Markowitz to become a mediator. Student who have conflict dispute with one another are brought into a private room where the student mediator tries to resolve their issues by easing the pressure off the disputers to act a certain way if they were around their friends. Classical high school reported a â€Å"90 percent success rate† (Weber, 9). When school is out; kids can keep themselves occupied and out of trouble by going to an after school program. After school program is a safe place where kids are supervised, kept busy to drift them away from negative behaviors like gangs and drugs. A lot of the kids who goes to the after school programs lacks adult guidance, or come from a low income family that the parents are working a 12 hour shift and cannot be around to supervise their every move. The staffs at after school programs don’t just help kids with their homework but they build relationships with them and try to guide them in the right direction (after – school activities and clubs). After school programs are not just programs where kids come to do home works and activities, it is also a place where they learn about gang violence, how to prevent involvement. Council for Unity is an after school program located in Riverhead, New York that was developed by Riverhead high school. The program consist of students from different ethnic backgrounds that come together every Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to talk about what issues are going on in the community, ways to prevent the violence in their schools and to learn about gang violence prevention. The coordinator, Mr. Desenna ask special guest to come by to talk and educate the kids (Council for Unity). Another after school program that is a major success and has been around since 1988 is Roca located in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Roca is a nonprofit organization that works with young people from ages 14 to 24 to help them stay away from gang, teen pregnancy, being incarcerated and graduate high schools. Roca work very closely with young people who are involved in gangs. Staffs from Roca have a program that they call outreach that consist of them walking the streets and trying to build relationships with the gang members. Most of the staffs have gone through incarceration or is an ex-gang member that has turned their lives around and using their experience to influence youths in a positive way. The program â€Å"helped more than 15,000 young people make positive, profound changes in their lives† (rocain.org) Gang violence in American schools is not going to go away overnight but if efforts are put in like: establishing school uniforms, peer mediation programs and providing more free after school programs, it soon will not be an issue facing the school systems. Having positive young people trying to influence their peers will help tremendously. Works Cited Capozzoli, Thomas, and R. Steve. My Life Unleashed Essay

Life is all but a matter of constancy, with the altering seasons and the varying tides vigorously wavering the enduring days of the lives of men. The evolution of the life of being a student remains a noteworthy space in my thoughts as my memories as a child will always be learned by heart, if not by everybody else, at least by myself. Or so I think at least by myself, lest I fail to remember that I had the companionship of good friends along the way, by no means abandoning me in times when I need them most. To be there for them when they, too, need someone to be with is only a portion of what sum of good deeds I must or feel to give them in return. And this is what I liked by being a child, apart from everything else that contributed to my identity to who I am today. It is my friends—my real friends that make me strong. College has been tough on me. I had to weigh several options as to what field to take—those were the nights where I could barely sleep thinking if I am to make the right decision. It was my friends who helped me decide. The primary reason why I chose [insert course here] is because the course in itself is competitive in today’s world. The course, moreover, reflects the scholastic principles of providing a major benefit to students in the [insert field of study] by putting a premium emphasis on the recent trends and advancements in today’s world of global competitiveness. The course is also one that seeks to refine the skills and knowledge of the students through a competition in [insert field of study] among its students just to name one. Moreover, the course is well-handled by faculty members who are very much qualified and are very much capable of instilling the necessary knowledge to the students inasmuch as the faculty as a whole is composed of teachers with reputations well beyond what one might expect. I am a flexible person, a jack-of-all-trades if you may consider. I love joining competitions. I love being challenged though I know for a fact that in every contest there is always a winner and a loser. I am a sport. I rise when I fall. But to tell you, losing for me is a hard thing—hence, it was through these unfortunate experiences that I was able to know myself. Not only did my refined skills and attitude became useful to us during times of dilemmas and crucial moments of getting into a halt on my fulfilling my dreams, but these factors also became a part of what I was able to impart to my friends. In a way, I have inspired them to do the same thing, to acquire the enhancements in their positive characteristics, and to use their meaningful experiences to have full control of their abilities and gifts—to encourage them to move forward after a downfall. I am fortunate to have friends who I can lean on. Part of my career thinking and objectives is that, after obtaining my degree I will bring forth the knowledge and skills that I have acquired into the far more practical planes in the world of [insert field of study]. However, prior to achieving such an end, I will put my best efforts in refining my comprehension on the field that I have chosen to pursue and in expanding my thoughts that revolve around the [field of study] arena. Apart from all these, I also intend to employ the vital information that I will learn through the course to the society at large. That is, I intend to contribute to a deeper understanding not only to the course but also to the generation that we have today and the generations to come through my scholarly contributions. All of these experiences and aspirations that I have shared a great fraction in my life in the sense that these served as the factors upon which I was able to steward my gifts and talents, refining these two along the way as my level of experience proportionally increase day after day. With the daily encounters that come across my way, I am able to contemplate on my personality and realign myself with these meaningful experiences so that I become guided as to what decisions I ought to pursue in my life. Such an understanding is of great use and help, as it has been back in the days when I was just starting in the science and math club, and, as far as I see it, nothing is as potent and as equally practical than having a wide range of experiences upon which one can be able to base his or her crucial decisions in life. These meaningful experiences have taught me a lot in my existence in the society at large and in stewarding my abilities and gifts. The Essence of Values The daily life experiences that every individual in this world comes across with contribute to the development of the self (Achebe, 1994). These experiences do not only come in a single strand nor pattern. Quite on the contrary, what makes these experiences contributive to the welfare of humanity is because these encounters come in various forms and in differing content. A well-rounded personality, then, can be achieved, though strictly limited, to the variety in the experiences that individuals get to have in their lives (Miedaner, 2000). Determination and decisiveness I believe, craft a person to become successful in one’s ordeals. A person who is determined builds confidence within. Believing that a person can do anything and surpass everything is a guarantee towards success as fear is out of the picture. Most people have fear and fail because they are indecisive. Being able to know what you want is a good start of taking challenges. Life is full of choices—and to reach a goal is to decide which path to take (Friedman, 2005). As much as I strongly believe in the idea that experiences shape the personality of a person in many different ways, these experiences can serve as a meaningful chapter in our lives as much as they have been significant to on my part. As far as my memory would not fail me, I do attest to the idea that experiences teach the individual person about being a steward of the gifts and talents that the self possesses. By having the full knowledge that these experiences contribute in a large part in the molding of the ability of the individual in bringing forth a rather full control or, at least, a strong grasp on one’s abilities to his or her advantage, their meanings would be far clear enough. Why My Brother Is My Best Friend Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Why My Brother Is My Best Friend - Essay Example I told him that Aljendro was there. The teacher called Aljendro in the classroom and showed him my blank page of class work. The teacher also showed Aljendro that I had been missing the classes on the attendance register. Alejandro told the teacher that he would take care of that. The teacher also placed confidence in Aljendro because Aljendro had been holding the first position throughout his education. Alejandro left the class. I was terrified that Aljendro would tell mom and dad, and they would be furious with me to know that I had been missing the classes as well as class work. I was very upset until I realized that Aljendro did not say a word to mom and dad. It so happened that he came to me in my room to talk to me about the teacher’s complaint. I had a beautiful and comfortable relationship with him, so I thought not to lie to him. I told him that I was having trouble gaining certain concepts. Aljendro identified those areas and personally taught me them with such detai l that I grasped those concepts. Aljendro also helped me organize my work by designing a schedule for me. As I had full confidence in Aljendro and wanted to be a position holder for him, I tried my best to follow his schedule, and it did work for me. A few days later, the teacher again called Aljendro in the classroom, but this time, it was not for a complaint, but for a reward. The teacher thanked Aljendro for helping me focus on the studies and told the class to clap and appreciate the efforts of an elder brother for a younger brother.... Aljendro also helped me organize my work by designing a schedule for me. As I had full confidence in Aljendro and wanted to be a position holder like him, I tried my best to follow his schedule, and it did work for me. Few days later, the teacher again called Aljendro in the classroom, but this time, it was not for a complaint, but for a reward. The teacher thanked Aljendro for helping me focus on the studies and told the class to clap and appreciate the efforts of an elder brother for a younger brother. Aljendro really helped me improve my academic performance. Had he told mom and dad all that the teacher had confided in him, that would have shattered my confidence as well as my trust upon him, but he kept that from happening. I believe that elder brother is always much more responsible for the type of relationship between two brothers, because he is wiser and is looked up to by the younger brother in all aspects. Younger brothers imitate elder brothers, so they naturally display ru de or nice behavior when they see elder brothers doing either of the two. Also, since elder brother has got more resources and authority than younger brother at any point in time, he is more able to affect the relationship for better or worse. For example, I remember my friend Bob whose elder brother would not let him touch his computer and that made Bob dislike him. My brother was never like that. Whatever he got, he shared it with me with a view to teaching me new things and inculcating new skills in me. From the books to his clothes, Aljendro has shared his every belonging with me, and has really fulfilled all responsibilities of an elder brother. Today, I fundamentally attribute my sense of

Marketing Management Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Marketing Management - Research Proposal Example This paper provides an overview of the crisis encountered by Sainsbury's and aims to assess the company's recovery plan. Furthermore, this paper analyses the firm's internal and external environment through the use of analytical tools such as the PEST and SWOT methods of analysis. In view of the results of the industry analysis, this paper also recommends some strategic options that the company may undertake in order to facilitate its full recovery. Sainsbury's chain of supermarket was once the market leader in the UK supermarket sector. However, it currently occupies the third place, behind its major competitors Tesco and ASDA. The firm has been struggling to keep hold of its market share since the mid-1990s. With this, the company posted dramatically declining profit margins (Wikipedia 2005). Indicative of Sainsbury's lackluster performance, the firm's pretax profit as at end-March 2005 plunged by almost 98% year-on-year, from 610 million in 2004 to only 15 million (Profits collapse at Sainsbury's 2005). To note, it would have generated a negative bottom-line if not for the extraordinary gain on the disposal of its subsidiary in the United States (Wikipedia 2005). According to recently appointed Chief Executive Justin King, the bleak financial result is attributed to Sainsbury's diminishing competitive edge. He cited that in the past years, as the company's competitors have substantially improved, Sainsbury's failed to keep up. (Madslien 2005) Recovery Program In view of the much needed improvement in the company's operations and marketing strategy, King spearheaded a 400-million recovery program. The proposed program covers a three-year period and aims to enhance Sainsbury's marketing strategy (Profits collapse at Sainsbury's 2005). To start off, King launched a direct mail campaign to about a million customers as part of its business review. This is undertaken in order for the company to be aware of customers' expectations as well as identify the critical areas for improvement. The result of this campaign was consistent with the contention of retail analysts that Sainsbury's has severe problem ensuring stock availability. (Wikipedia 2005) This perceived weakness as revealed by the business review is immediately communicated to all store managers. Aside from this, the outcome was also announced publicly and was generally well received by the market and the media. With this, King pushed through with the recovery scheme by laying off about 750 headquarter staff and recruiting around 3,000 shop floor staff to ensure quality customer service and efficient replenishment of stocks. Since the firm's main problem is keeping shelves fully stocked, Sainsbury's management activated two distribution centres to enhance logistics and address issues on stock availability (Wikipedia 2005). It was also reported that Sainsbury's opted to end its ten-year contract with Accenture. After the system in place was deemed ineffective, the firm decided to bring its IT infrastructure back in house over the upcoming months (Ranger 2005). Apart from this, Sainsbury's also announced the halving of the fund allocated for dividends. This is because the firm's earnings would be plowed back to finance the recovery program. (Wikipedia 2005) In addition, to keep up with the competition, King appointed industry experts to join the

The practices of Human Resource Management in the organization Research Paper

The practices of Human Resource Management in the organization - Research Paper Example Methods of study For this study, the HR department was explored in detail in terms of understanding its core activities, practices and its position in overall organizational setup. This was done through personal interviews conducted with HR personnel as well as managers in other departments like finance, technology, operations and facilities. These questions were aimed at understanding the goals and objectives of HR team and their relationship with organizational objectives. In a top-down approach the general information related to HR function was gathered in a manner that paved way to put forth questions to assess the effectiveness of these practices as well as the HR function. Interviews: Face-to-face interviews were conducted with managers from core departments within the organization, which included the HR, technology, operations, facilities and finance teams. These interviews were semi-structured to allow further inquiry based on the responses from managers, which was extremely helpful to obtain individual insight and experiences related to contribution and involvement of HR personnel Questionnaire: Based on the responses from the interviews, a small questionnaire was prepared to assess the effectiveness of HR practices and their impact on overall employee wellbeing and progress. The questionnaires were graded on Likert scale, in which respondents graded their experience on a scale from 1 to 5. The responses to these questions will help in eliciting objective as well as subjective information that will highlight overall performance and effectiveness of HR function. 3. Findings: Findings from both interviews and questionnaires were interpreted in terms of basic HR functions. i). Acquisition: Interview with the HR manager highlighted the role of HR in... From this research it is clear that the human resource management plays a significant role in sustaining organizational performance through acquisition, motivation, maintenance and development of human resources of the organization. These goals are accomplished through specific policies, procedures and practices framed by the HR function. In order to successfully accomplish these goals, the HR function has to be actively involved in strategic planning processes with all other departments, as well as oversee implementation of these policies and procedures. For this, it is important that HR personnel work closely with other departments/functions at the ground level in order to assess the effectiveness of HR-related strategies and identify the issues and gaps. Based on the study conducted in the IT firm explained in present context, HR department plays similar role at strategic level; however, its involvement has to be intensified at implementation level by partnering with each departme nt. The HR department’s role has to be extended from strategic planning level to implementation process in order to accomplish organizational goals with respect to human resources, such as improved employee motivation, commitment, morale and continuous learning and developmental opportunities. Though the HR is already involved in accomplishing these goals, its practices have to be modified to achieve better and long-lasting outcomes related to these goals.

Genderism and Architecture Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Genderism and Architecture - Research Proposal Example John could easily pass for a straight man, as he was living in the closet. Even his closest associates would never have dreamed John was gay. But John couldn't take the chance that someone might "out" him to his close friends and family, whom he loved dearly but couldn't with them share his horribly dark secret-that yes, he was gay. Much less would he tell anyone at his workplace that he was gay. For fear of seeming effeminate or less of a man, John decided to keep quiet and keep his nose to the grindstone. What Jane and John face in the world of architecture is not uncommon. Let's hope their dreams to succeed in a straight man's world come true. II. Introduction Unfortunately for many people, genderism is a major topic, especially in the arena of the workplace. For people who are architects, their profession is dominated by the general premise that only socially acceptable architects are straight men. Where, then, does this leave the woman and the gay man Where is their place in their workplace How can they relate to other architects when the cards are stacked against them before they can even prove themselves worthy of the same privileged respect that straight men automatically receive by virtue of their being straight men Undoubtedly, there are many questions which this dissertation will seek to answer. III. Research Question and Methodology How does a woman practicing architecture and a gay man practicing architecture have to fulfill certain stereotypes that do exist in a masculine profession like architecture in order to achieve My research question assumes that, obviously in a straight male-dominated profession, women and gay men are going to be at odds in their careers. My research question assumes that, obviously in a straight male-dominated profession, women and gay men are going to be at odds in their careers. They will most likely be constantly harassed or worse if they cannot find ways of managing to adapt and/or deal with their work environment as architects. Thus, it must first be proved that architecture is a straight man's domain. Then it will be envisioned what it would be like if everyone had the same opportunities in the field. Finally, both the plights of the woman and the gay man will be examined, after which conclusions will be drawn. and Space (1996), where much of the feel of a house is designed depends on where furniture is placed; indeed, a "spatial-psychological device [can] also be read in terms of power, [and] regimes of control inside the house. What does the book of Exodus contribute to our understanding of Essay

What does the book of Exodus contribute to our understanding of salvation - Essay Example His divine-human nature has allowed people to atone for their sins and be saved and have a blissful afterlife. Nevertheless, the origins of the issue can be found in the Old Testament, particularly in Exodus.2 Exodus raises important issues relating to the issue of salvation such as faith in God and commitment to spiritual and moral purification. In Exodus, salvation appears not only as receiving by the Jewish people their Promised Land. Salvation is presented as a spiritual and moral purification, in which the main role belongs to the sincere and genuine faith in God and His grace. â€Å"The importance of the Exodus event in the Old Testament cannot be underestimated.† 3 As noted above, salvation is seen by many people as the exemption from danger or suffering. To save someone means to free or secure him or her. This word carries the idea of victory, peace, and protection. Sometimes the Bible uses the word "salvation" in relation to the interim and physical release, such as the release of Paul from prison.4 However, more often the word "salvation" refers to the eternal and spiritual liberation. When Paul told the Philippian jailer, that he should be saved, he was referring to the jailers eternal destiny.5 Jesus likened salvation with entering the kingdom of heaven.6 According to the Christian doctrine of salvation, people are saved from God’s "anger", that is, the divine judgment of sin.7 Sin had separated people from God, and the result of sin is death.8 Biblical salvation means liberation of people from the consequences of sin, and thus involves the removal of the sin. Exodus tells the story of the calling of Moses, the deliverance from the bondage of the people of God and the covenant between the Jewish people and God. The composition of the book is rather complicated. The book contains the epic story of the Children of Israel enslaved in Egypt and the calling of Moses (Exodus 1-5), the struggle

BIOLOGY ASPECTS OF HEALTH AND DISEASE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

BIOLOGY ASPECTS OF HEALTH AND DISEASE - Essay Example Some of the information requires to be translated into taste, sound, touch and smell. This is why this system is important since it performs these actions. The system also controls body nerves The three systems are responsible in the communication of the body parts. Without one part, one path of relaying body signals will be incomplete. That is, failure of one system will lead automatically to bodily disorders. Every organ being vital assists the other systems in ensuring that the body parts functions well. Autonomic nervous system The function of this system is to control the functioning of the internal organs like intestines, heart and stomach. Additionally, this system is responsible in controlling some of the body muscles. For example, most of the time we do not recognize when the heart beats increase or when the blood vessels contract and expand, this one is responsible for the autonomic nervous system to take care of. Therefore the system conveys information from all parts of t he body. This system is normally Co ordinated by the hypothalamus and the system is a significant homeostasis process. Endocrine system This system consists of glands which produce hormones to the blood streams. It produces chemicals which assist in controlling the body’s metabolic activities. ... The hypothalamus is an area between the brain stem and cerebrum that is responsible for controlling sleep patterns, body temperature, thirst, hunger, visual and auditory reflexes. Andersen and J. M. (2002, p.10-15) It is also responsible for communication between the cerebellum and other vital parts of the brain and also the selection of stimuli which are sent to the brain. The hypothalamus serves as a link between the endocrine system, autonomic and central nervous system. The role of the hypothalamus in controlling feeding behavior while linking all the three systems The hypothalamus plays a key role in the homeostasis of energy in triggering feeding behaviors. This is because the control of energy is important which makes eating the most fundamental aspect in maintaining body fats. The feeding behavior is a good example of how the hypothalamus links the endocrine system, central and autonomic nervous system. In the event when there is a deficiency in body fats, the endocrine syste m through a hormone called leptin comes in place sends stimuli to the hypothalamus. Charmandari, Tsigos, Chrousos (2005, p.265-270) In return the hypothalamus sends impulses to the autonomic nervous system and which are further relayed to the central nervous system and the final aspect is the feeling of hunger which motivates us to eat. Therefore the hypothalamus serves many purposes and is crucial in linking all the three systems. This interaction in return helps to control the mode of behavior in humans The functions and diseases of the brain Areas of function of the brain The brain is said to be the center of every signal sent by the body parts. Once a signal is sent to the brain, it acts by interpreting the signal and produces the action for the signal. The

Student discussions week 7 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Student discussions week 7 - Assignment Example Typically, in a larger company, most workstations are shared; in addition to this, many of those workstations are restarted between shifts, which in turn resolves many issues that may otherwise appear in regards to caching issues. ___________________________________________________________________ Response 2: Joshua Hi Joshua, It is my opinion that the answer you have provided is just the sort of thing this particular question was looking for. Windows 7 Performance Monitor may indeed track and monitor major bottlenecks or abnormalities on the system. This is something that is seen quite often on workstations in large organizations, especially ones that rely on the company network itself, like those that use VDI, as opposed to those that are setup as standalone stations that access company tools through the internet versus an intranet. Certain intranet programs, if not optimized, can become quite resource intensive, which can in turn lead to system bottlenecks and cause delays in work flow, resulting in decreased productivity. Through the use of Performance Monitor it is possible to make adjustments to the resources being used in order to decrease the likelihood of, or alleviate the issues caused by, a system bottleneck. ______________________________________________________________________ Response 3: Anna: Good afternoon Anna, User Account Control (UAC), may seem slightly convoluted at first, however, it is actually a quite handy little security feature. Just because the user account may have administrator privileges does not mean that the applications themselves have those same admin privileges; as such if an admin user wants to set that application to have admin rights, they must go in and do so manually, in the properties of the executable itself. Alternately, they can right click on the executable file, if they do not want it to have those admin rights at all times, and select the â€Å"Run as Administrator† option to allow the .exe those rights for that specific instance. If they do not do so, and the application attempts to run as an administrator, a popup box comes up which states that the application is attempting to run as an administrator, and requests the user to confirm whether or not they wish to allow or deny this change. If UAC is configured to ask each and every time, it can get quite annoying, but, it does not cause the computer to be placed at risk. _____________________________________________________________________ Response 4: Catherine: Hi Catherine, User Account Control (UAC) is an administrator’s dream in a company setting. The sad truth of the matter is that many people still do not have basic computer knowledge, and by allowing them to have more access than they need for everyday tasks can very quickly turn into a headache, whether because someone wanted to see â€Å"what that button does† or whether they managed to go through and remove registry files, grant applications access that they hav e no reason to have, and so on. If not setup, you are correct, it completely negates the reason for the feature being put in place in the first place; however, if used properly, it can be a wonderful little tool that saves

Mangment 3000 - Essay Example The Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is an important tool to assess the needs of the people. II. Providing adequate opportunity to the individual for showcasing his/her abilities, so that the individual is able to contribute to the best of his/ her ability towards the completion of the task and growth of the company. I consider the ‘recognition’ and ‘career development opportunities’ as the most valuable ones. If someone is able to accomplish the assigned task in a satisfactory manner and the management gives it due recognition, the manager personally congratulates the individual, then it proves quite helpful in boosting the motivational levels of the person. If such testimonials are followed by promotional opportunities, then it works wonders for the individual, the team, and of course the company. If the manager is aware about my preferences for doing good work, and he gives due consideration to my needs, this will certainly help in improving the interpersonal communication and mutual respect between employees and managers. My dominant needs are safety needs and self esteem needs. While working for the company having a decent pay package with reasonable assurance of job security results in boosting the self confidence of the individual. This in turn reflects on the manner in which the individual tries to implement the strategies and jobs assigned to him. Self respect is another key attribute which works up to the advantage of the worker. Nobody likes to work for the company if he is treated in a denigrating manner. These needs certainly help while functioning in a group. If we accord due respect to every team member, we are bound to get equal respect from each team member. This brings up the required team spirit for effective functioning of the group. It is worthwhile here to mention that a team is also composed of people with differing abilities, qualification and motivation levels. A cohesive team of highly motivated and

Consciousness mind Essay Example for Free

Consciousness mind Essay The Psyche, is a culmination of how we interpret the world, all our psychological nature. It’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey. The psyches are different paths to knowledge but have the same ending, personal ideas, experiences, emotions, as well as the collective unconscious. Conscious is the only part to the mind that is known directly by the individual, thinking, feeling, sensing, and intuiting. This is how we grow our consciousness; the attitudes of extroversion and introversion determine how we orient our conscious mind. Individuation, or knowing oneself as completely as possible is how we produce and develop our ego. The Ego acts as the gatekeeper, it determines what perceptions thoughts feeling and memories will enter consciousness. Its what we select to make conscious. The organizational of how we operate. The personal unconscious is the idea of information that we file away in our mind. Its there, but we’re not focusing on it at the moment; it’s below the surface, the storehouse of repressed psychic material Complexes lie in our personal unconscious. They are groups of contents that clump together to form a cluster or constellation. They are separate little personalities within the total personality. They are autonomous, possessing their own driving force, and can be very powerful in controlling our thoughts and behaviors. The collective unconscious is the portion of the psyche, which can be differentiated from the personal unconscious by the fact that its existence is not dependent upon personal experience, composed of contents that were once conscious, but the contents of the collective unconscious have never been conscious within the life time of the individual. Ex: Mans fear of snakes or the dark. Does not learn these fears through experiences with snakes or the dark, although such experiences may reinforce or reaffirm his predispositions. We inherit predispositions to fear snakes and the dark because our primitive ancestors experienced these fears for countless generations. They become engraved upon the brain. Archetypes lie in the collective unconscious, models of our ancestry, it is the endless repetition that has engraved these experiences into our psychic constitution, not in the forms of images filled with content, but at first only as forms without content, representing merely the possibility of a certain type of perception and action. They are universal; everyone inherits the same basic archetypal images. The persona, to take a characteristic that isn’t your own. The persona is the mask or facade one exhibits publicly, with the intention of presenting a favorable impression so that society will accept him. It is necessary for survival, it enables us to get along with people, even those we dislike, in an amicable manner. The anima/animus is the â€Å"outward face† of the psyche because it is that face which the world sees. The â€Å"inward face† he called the anima in males and animus in females. The anima archetype is the feminine side of the male psyche; the animus archetype is the masculine side of the female psyche. Everyone has qualities of the opposite sex. The shadow, is primal and animalistic, it lives in the unconscious. It is projected on the opposite sex and is responsible for the quality of the relationships between the sexes. It is persistent and does not yield easily to suppression. Ex: farmer to poet, burying the idea of being a poet, but an even may trigger that desire. The bigger the personality the bigger the shadow. The self is the organizing principle of the personality. It is the central archetype in the collective unconscious. It harmonizes all the archetypes and their manifestations in complexes and consciousness. It unites the personality, giving it a sense of oneness and firmness. The psyche: a relatively closed system must be dealt with as a unitary system within itself, apart from any other energy system. It is derived from the things we touch, see, smell, taste, feel, or hear. These are the continuous source of stimulation by which the psyche is fed. The psychic energy is the energy by which the work of the personality is performed. Also called the libido, the natural state of appetite, manifested consciously as striving desiring, and willing. Its expresses itself through perceiving, remembering, thinking, feeling, wishing, willing, attending, and striving. It originates from the experiences that a person has. Psychic values, a value is a measure of the amount of energy that is committed to a particular psychic element. When placing a high value on an idea or feeling it can exert a considerable force in influencing one’s behavior. For instance, one who puts a high value on beauty will put forth large amounts of energy to surrounding oneself with beautiful things. This reminded me of my sister in law, whom is obsessed with very beautiful and very expensive things in life. She devotes her time and hard earned money to the material things in life. One might say she’s trying to keep up with the Jones’. She would say she like beautiful and expensive things. Direct observation and deduction, is a complex that does not always exhibit its characteristics in conscious behavior. Ex: The person who says, â€Å"I can’t stand gossips† may be the one who gossips most. Complex indicators are any disturbance of behavior may be indicative of a complex. Ex: when a man calls his wife by his mother’s name, it suggests that his mother complex has assimilated his wife to it. The repressed memory is assumed which has some connection with an unconscious complex so that the memory is swallowed up by it. Emotional Reactions, is the underlying complex. Intuition is the natural and spontaneous capacity every man has to perceive the slightest emotional fluctuation in others. The Principle of Equivalence if the amount of energy cosigned to a given psychic element decreases or disappears, that amount of energy is lost from the psyche; it is simply transferred from one position to another. The principle of Entropy is the direction in which energy flows is conceptualized in physics by the second law of thermodynamics. This principle states, in effect, that when two bodies of different temperatures are placed in contact, heat will pass from the hotter to the colder body until the temp of the two bodies is equalized. Progression and regression, Progression is defined as a persons daily experiences, which advance his psychological adaptation. Ones progression is a continuous process since his environment and experiences change continuously, which then adaptation is never completely achieved. Regression is the backward movement of libido. Through the collision and interactions of the opposites, they steadily become deprived of their energy. It subtracts energy from psychic elements whereas progression adds energy to psychic elements. Individuation Jung understood individuation to be something that began in the second half of life, when individuals reach the zenith of their lives and suddenly find themselves facing an unknown vista or some unforeseen upheaval. Sometimes this turning point takes the form of a crisis: such as a financial failure, a health problem, a broken relationship, or a change of residence or profession something which upsets the status quo. Sometimes this experience assumes the form of a profound self-doubt, a loss of meaning or religious conviction, a questioning of everything previously held so dear. Sometimes it presents itself as a deep yearning or a call to change direction. In essence, one could say that the unconscious, or more specifically, the Self (with a capital S), the central organizing archetype in the human psyche, which has seemingly hidden the greatest measure of its influence while the ego has been busy building a life for itself, suddenly the Self returns full force to claim a significant say, if not a central place, in the overall scheme of things. And for what purpose? To call a person to become a psychological ‘in-dividual,’ a separate, indivisible unity or whole. Those personal aspects, which have heretofore been disregarded be they interests, talents, characteristics, experiences, or issues now come forth to be acknowledged. That which was fragmented now strives for unity. That which was broken now yearns for wholeness. That which was neglected now seeks expression. That which was previously formless in nature suddenly begins to take a new shape, strangely in keeping with what feels like a unique and deeply ingrained individual patterning. The center of the personality moves from the ego toward the Self, in an attempt to establish a new center of the psyche somewhere between the two. There is something in the human psyche, which in its own fullness of time, struggles to produce the true personality. The individuation is an autonomous, inborn process, which means that it does not require external stimulation in order to come into existence. The personality of an individuation is destined to individuate just as surely as the body is destined to grow. But just as the body needs proper food and exercise for healthy growth, so the personality needs proper experiences and education for healthy individuation. For example in the early stages of childhood, of infancy personalities of the child are a reflection of the parent’s personalities, meaning that the child does not carry his own identity. But when the child separates himself from the parents, as in he starts attending school. He will then start shaping his own personality in unique ways apart from the parents. Three facts about Carl Jung. Jung was an introverted child and found happiness in being quiet and being alone. When he was a child he played by himself, since his sister was not born until he was nine. He spent hours inventing and playing games, then abandoning them to devise new and more complex ones. He did not want anyone to disturb him o tot interfere while he played. Jung had religious conflicts throughout his adolescence. Questions concerning religion were taboo. It produced confusion in jungs’ mind but it was the barrier that made communication with his father virtually impossible. He searched unsuccessfully through books for answers to his questions. Religious discussions with his father invariably ended unsatisfactorily, often with fuss and hard feelings. Jungs father died and made his financial situation worse. This left him responsible for the support of his mother and sister. Some of his relatives urged jung to discontinue his studies and seek employment, fortunately, one unclc offered financial assistance to take care of the family and the other relatives loaned jung money to continue at the university.

Movie Analysis Essay Example for Free

Movie Analysis Essay There are many versions of Spiderman, but â€Å"Amazing Spider-man† is the best version ever. The graphic works, the music, and the plot are amazing like the movie title. The Amazing spider-man is not connected to the previous Spiderman movie. One online film critic stated that there is a silent war ongoing right now between two of the big comic book flicks hit theaters in July of 2012: Warner Bros. ’ The Dark knight Rises and Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man (Sandy Schaefer). In addition, I do believe that this movie really sound like a more genuinely contemporary portrayal of the eponymous webslinger than that offered in Raimi’s previous movie trilogy. Although some of the character I do not like the way they act and somehow they cannot give me a clear mind what they should able to act, I could still agree this version of the Spiderman is the best I have seen. The characters in the movie are very rich for the audience to watch. Every action movie are essential to have the element of love scene, fighting scene, the falling scene, and the return scene. The main character is obviously the Spider-man Peter Parker. Here is the aforementioned from Amazing Spider-Man: â€Å"Like most teenagers his age, Peter [played by Andrew Garfield] is trying to figure out who he is and how to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father [Campbell Scott] held†¦ a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. † (Schaefer). Peter Parker has struggled to find his purpose in life, ever since Peter’s parents disappeared 13 years old. Like other movies, he must face the ultimate challenge on the brink of unlocking the mystery. Thus, he is absolutely hero archetype that he defeats Dr. Connors and safe the whole New York City. The female character, Spider-man girlfriend, Gwen Stacy is knowledgeable and wise. For some moment, she is charismatic and rebellious when she deal with her family. Gwen is the chief intern at Oscorp, a position she takes very seriously. However, her mentor Dr. Connors is the competitor of Spiderman. Captain Stacy is an esteemed police officer who leads the investigation into Spiderman. Captain Stacy is highly alert to his family more than the city, especially his only daughter, Gwen. Apparently, the villain is Dr. Connors. It is not clear that he is the lizard when it comes to the end. He is a scientist that attempts to engineer a revolutionary regeneration serum to help regrow limbs and human tissue. He became so horrible at the end. The hero’s journey is always followed by the 17 stages of Joseph Cambell’s Monomyth. But for nowadays movies, they eliminate some of the stages in a simply form. Not surprisingly, Campbell’s idea is generally applied to many Hollywood screenwriting and literature as well. The Ordinary World- Peter Parker is a student at Midtown Science High School, and he lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. His parent is a mystery and left him with no explanation when he was young. As a result, Peter is frustrated and longs to find out more about his father and why he left. Peter is weird around his peers, but he still sticks up for the underdog. Call to Adventure- Peter found out a file and lead him to research his father’s lab partner who works at Oscorp Tower, Dr. Connors. He goes to him and look out for answers. Later, he is bitten by a spider that is being used to create biocable. He starts to have the abilities of spider. He has been introduced to the Special World that is opposite of what he knows. Refusal of the Call- Peter begins to test his power, and using them to beat the bully who picked on him, Flash Thompson. His emotion change and have argument with Uncle Ben. Because Uncle Ben feels his strange behavior, so he follows him and that make the tragedy of the thief shoots Uncle Ben. Meeting with the Mentor- Dr. Connors is a mentor to him when it comes to science. Another crucial mentor is Uncle Ben of course. Hence, he gives a big influence on Peter, and when he dies, Peter is pushed to his limits. Crossing the Threshold- Because of the death of Uncle Ben, Peter pushed himself into the Special World. Peter tries to hunt the thief who murdered Uncle Ben. Test, Allies, Enemies- When Peter fights crime, he confronts criminals and makes enemies. At school, he developed a friendship with Gwen. His tests are increasing in difficulty: Dr. Connors displayed a semblance of friendship toward him, but as his identity shifts into the Lizard, this will change. Captain Stacy, Gwen’s father, shows an antagonistic attitude toward Peter and his alter-ego. Approach- Spiderman tries to stop the creature on the bridge. The Lizard got a big fight at Midtown Science high School, and Peter tries to stop him with Gwen’s help. Ordeal- Spiderman was shot by a police bullet that stuns him electrically. It is a hard time to Spiderman to fight his way out, reveals his identity to Captain Stacy. Reward- Captain Stacy lets him go, showing his trust in Peter. Resurrection- The Lizard is strong and powerful. Captain Stacy and Peter Parker finally work together to restrict the activities and take the Lizard down. Return with the Elixir- Dr. Connors has been returned back to normal. He has saved Gwen, but Captain Stacy was killed. As he dies, he asks Peter to keep Gwen out of his life to protect her. It is not only a promise to Captain Stacy, but also in a carton of eggs. He is a different person, and even though he may not have all of the answers he wanted, he has learned to put others ahead of himself during the search. The Elixir Peter Parker has brought back from his journey is that of a new hero. He is no longer just Peter Parker, fatherless teenager. He is Spider-Man. (Milles). Peter Andrew Garfield who is the actor of Spiderman did a good job in the movie because it is a challenge to an actor to have a big different from being a normal person to an amazing ultimate hero. Andrew Garfield can express and show on his face that the inner features of Spiderman to the audience. Honestly, the only person I do not satisfy is Emma Stone, who is the actress of Gwen Stacy, and I reckon many of the commends on the internet board criticize that she has not done a great job on her part. For instance, there is a frightening scene that she is holding a knife hiding when Dr. Connors has become the Lizard and chasing her. I am sorry to say that, but I cannot feel any scary moment in the scene. For the love scene, I do not think she acts like a spouse of Peter Parker. Also, she did not have the interaction with her family show that she is rebellious. The plot is moving smooth and clear when I follow along to the hero’s journey. Refer to the hero’s journey, the plot is developed and excited. I would not find any boring scene in the entire movie. When I watched along with it, I would have many unexpected things happen, and really influence the audience to keep watching on it. Moreover, the music composer of the movie is James Horner. Indeed, he is a great composer of film music. James Horner also composes some great movies such as Titanic and Avatar. He is currently as famous as John Williams and the music they composed does make the audience impressed. His music moved the audience, and there is no doubt that film music is so significant because we are not only watching the screen, but listen to the music also. Amazing Spiderman is well-developed movie as following the classic hero’s journey. It does make the audience easy to follow and a feeling of unexpected. Also, the action scene is exciting to watch. Even though I know it is not real, but I really get into it. Furthermore, the music do influence the audience and no movie can neglect music because it is an crucial tools.

Network User Problems

Network User Problems Tiago Garcia Mourà £o (13265) a) Credential, Permission and Rights Problems The user can have this kind of problem when tries to access/alter a host, folder or document and is not able to because they cannot log in, or they do not have that permission. Network Performance If the user or LAN administrator wants to use a wireless connection, it will drastically impact the network communication. This happens because today home-based wireless systems will not produce more than about 54-100 Mbps of transfer. And using a hub instead of a network switch can cause major issues with speed and latency, which means low performance network. TCP/IP Conflicts There are many reasons why this can be an issue, but the most common happens when at least two devices are trying to use the same IP address in the same network. b) By the morning, an user that works in a company, tries to logon into the Windows operational system using the network credentials given by the Network Administrator. But he gets the following error: The relationship between this device and the domain failed. The user tries to restart the computer and logon again, but gets the same error. c) Network Performance If you are using a corporate network, make sure that you are not streaming or downloading music, video or whatever else while working. By doing that, you will be impacting the network performance and like it will make IP phone calls and file sharing, per example, really slow. The Network Administrator has to find a way to lock down this kind of problems, like blocking music/video streaming and files downloads. TCP/IP Conflicts When the Network Administrator faces problems like IP conflicts into the network, the easiest way to fix it would be releasing and renewing the device IP and try to use it again. d) Knowledge base form Name of the company TGM Inc Clients Name Ilson Neves Date and time 01/12/2015 2:50 PM Problem Detail: Users are complaining about devices IP conflicts every day during the usual work. When users try to access the folder/document in the server, they can get errors like Not authorized access or The file is being used. Data Backup An important action related to fileservers is the backup. The most of companies have files that need to be accessed many times per day and by different users, no matter what. b) A company user created a shared folder on the network to allow other department users read and edit documents. After adding these documents, other users tried to open the documents, but they got the following error: Windows cannot access the document. You do not have the permission to access the document. Contact your Network Administrator to request access. The users restarted the PCs and tried to access the documents again, but still got the same error. c) File Sharing If the users cannot access shared folders or alter shared folders, the Network Administrator has to check the reason. The first step is checking if the folder/file owner has shared it. Otherwise, only him will be able to access it. If it have been done, the next step is checking if the file is being used by another user. After that, the folders/files have to be available for the allowed users in the network. Data Backup If the server crashes or the file is deleted by mistake, the Network Administrator has to get the last backup version as soon as possible, no matter what. d) Knowledge base form Name of the company MG Enterprise Clients Name Carlos Silva Date and time 01/09/2016 4:30 PM Problem Detail: Users are complaining that they cannot access or alter any folders or files into the fileserver. Signature Tiago Garcia Mourà £o Date 03 09 2016 Company contact Address 5, Welesley St Information Phone 07 9845672 Website www.mgenterprise.co.nz 1.3 Performance issues: a) Wireless Apart of wired connection, the wireless connection can subject your connection to variable conditions. Because of that, the data delays can bring the transfer performance down. Memory (RAM) The data transfer over the network does not need much system memory usage, but can affect the performance of other OS components. If the system memory is too low, the system has to access the HD more often, and the writing/reading disk performance will be low as well. b) Every week a company leaders need to make a videoconference with another branch for a brainstorm. Both branches use Skype for it, but they are having some problems related to the network. The connection is very slow and the call crashes, even if the computer is connected to the internet using the wire. c) Memory (RAM) In order to increase the network data transfer, the user can add more RAM memory to the laptop/PC, making the writing/reading disk faster and avoiding the HD access. Wireless If the user wants to increase the wireless connection performance, the best ways would be getting closer to the Access Point to get a high quality connection or buying a better Access Point, if possible to support more users at the same time. d) Knowledge base form Name of the company GT Ltd Clients Name Bruno Souza Date and time 01/02/2017 8:50 AM Problem Detail: The users are complaining that the wireless connection is too slow and sometimes crashes. Zenoss This software was created to monitor server, storage, applications, networks and virtual servers. Monitis Focused on small or medium-sized companies, this application can arise as a great network tool. Pandora FMS Its capable of monitoring over 10,000 nodes and monitors servers, networks and applications. It has many alerts, reports and third party integrations, etc. Its network autodiscovery system can find all the network elements in a short time. Zabbix Its known for being easy to configure and for having a very powerful GUI. It has agentless monitoring service can monitor up to 10,000 nodes without performance issues. 2.2 Install network monitoring tools: According to the figure below, during an average websites usage at 3PM, the total traffic size was 4.24MB, the transfer rate was 136.942Kbps and the packets amount was 9,384 (474.000 bytes): (Figure 01: Capsa Free software Summary tab) (Figure 02: Capsa Free software Dashboard tab) After few minutes, a new Youtube tab was opened at 3:03 PM and then the total traffic size was 35.15MB, the transfer rate was 531.204Kbps and the packets amount was 50,292 (732.000bytes), according to the figure below: (Figure 03: Capsa Free software Summary tab) (Figure 04: Capsa Free software Dashboard tab) 2.3 Analyse the bandwidth information: According to the figures above, the usage of network didnt reach its limits. The maximum usage that it reached during the tests was 0.053% of the bandwidth. 2.4 Explain different techniques for LAN performance: Watch everything Users often complain about the network performance, but the most of times, the network has nothing to do with it. One of the best techniques to improve the LAN performance is monitor everything, from network latency and throughput, to CPU and RAM utilization. Monitoring the switches and routers, the network error rates and configuring some logfiles alerts will make the network faster. Know your apps The network is always being consumed by the applications. Even being hard to see exactly what is going on, is possible observing their effects on the infrastructure. The best way to keep your network performance is testing the software in a testing environment before purchasing/installing it in the infrastructure and check the amount of resources is being used. 3.1 Identify and explain security exposures and violations: Former Employees Attacks coming from inside the network are one of the biggest threats to a corporate network. Former employees, especially from IT department, that have the networks, admin accounts and data centers access can spread/sell this information or even hack the company. Careless Employees An employee that forgets files or the cellphone/laptop inside a taxi cab or on a restaurant table could allow a malicious person to use this information or sell it to competitor companies. 3.2 Determine the possible solutions for the CVE: Former Employees In order to avoid this kind of danger, when an employee is about to be dismissed, the Information Security Analyst or the Network Administrator has to fill out a form describing all the access rights to be revoked(systems, servers, data centers, etc) and ask to an analyst do it. Careless Employees Information stealing is one of the most dangerous ways to get corporate information leaked. To avoid it, employees must look after classified documents, cellphones, laptops, etc and keep it safe. Electronic devices must have passwords, per example. 4.1 The sender in a LAN sends 10110110; a hacker alters the data and the receiver receives 10100110. Free College Admissions Essays: We Are the World :: College Admissions Essays

We Are the World    How will I make the future a better place? By trying my hardest to develop technology to help others. I also will be better equipped because I have seen the world and lived in it from different points of view. (I certainly don't have the answers to all of the world's problems, but hopefully I will be able to help solve a few of them.) When I was an exchange student to Germany I realized that the world is but a tiny island upon which there are billions of people who are all dependant upon one another. Technology has shrunk our world so that a once difficult travel is reduced to a pleasure of flying or one can speak with a loved one on the other side of the planet with clarity such as if they were in the next room. The political situations of the world and the increasing strength of the United Nations has helped prove that we all depend on one another no matter who we are or where we live.    So where do I fit into the grand scheme of things? Well I have often asked myself that exact same question and have thought of many different things that I could do to help promote world peace and prosperity, such as I believe that I would make a great foreign diplomat. I have already been a miniature version of such when I was an exchange student to Germany. I would also like to do this because I enjoy and am good at settling disputes between to warring parties, this I attribute to the fact that I have a total of six siblings. I would love to do such a task where I could actively affect millions of people's lives.    However, I love the sciences and can never turn my head from trying to gain more scientific knowledge. I then thought of a way that I could affect the lives of many in a much more personal way, This is when I decided to attempt to develop devices to help the infirm. I saw that many could not care less about the wealth of nations in our world, but were rather more concerned about matters within their own lives. I hope to one day through becoming a Biomedical Engineer develop new ways for people to have a personal feeling of peace by making their lives more productive or of higher standards.

Interest Groups :: Political Special Interest Groups

Interest Groups Interest Group is defined as "an organized body of individuals who try to influence public policy." This system is designed so that interest groups would be an instrument of public influence on politics to create changes, but would not threaten the government much. Whether this is still the case or not is an important question that we must find out. Interest groups play many different roles in the American political system, such as representation, participation, education, and program monitoring. Representation is the function that we see most often and the function we automatically think of when we think of interest groups. Participation is another role that interest groups play in our government, which is when they facilitate and encourage the participation of their members in the political process. Interest groups also educate, by trying to inform both public officials and the public at large about matters of importance to them. Lobby groups also keep track of how programs are working in the field and try to persuade government to take action when problems become evident when they monitor programs. The traditional interest groups have been organized around some form of economic cause, be it corporate interests, associates, or unions. The number of business oriented lobbies has grown since the 1960s and continues to grow. Public-interest groups have also grown enormously since the 1960s. Liberal groups started the trend, but conservative groups are now just as common, although some groups are better represented through interest groups than others are. There are many ways that the groups can influence politics too. The increase in interest group activity has fragmented the political debate into little pockets of debates and have served to further erode the power of political parties, who try to make broad based appeals. PACs also give money to incumbents, which means that incumbents can accumulate large reelection campaign funds, that in result, discourages potential challengers. As a result, most incumbents win, not because they outspend their challengers, but because they keep good potential opponents out of the race. Conservatives are one of the big groups that influence politics and for many reasons.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Conservative thinking has not only claimed the presidency; it has spread throughout our political and intellectual life and stands poised to become the dominant strain in American public policy. While the political ascent of conservatism has taken place in full public view, the intellectual transformation has for the most part occurred behind the scenes, in a network of think tanks whose efforts have been influential to an extent that only five years after President Reagan's election, begins to be clear.

Psychoneuroimmunology and Natural Healing by the Brain :: Biology Essays Research Papers

Psychoneuroimmunology and Natural Healing by the Brain After having studied the placebo effect for our last paper, I was greatly intrigued by its' importance in understanding health and implications for the connection of mind and body. As I acknowledged in my previous paper, the placebo effect is often documented in a scientific study, yet is considered to be something not completely understood and therefore deemed unreliable by the medical community. However, what I found from my research was that there does seem to be an inherent reliability and could thus be a cornerstone for the concept for mind-body healing. As most of us have experienced in our lives, especially in college, when we are most stressed out we all of a sudden seem to get sick easier and react to pain in more extreme ways. In this case, our psychological state seems to have much control over the functioning of our bodies (and immune system). For another example, consider the case of Mr. Wright as reported by Dr. Bruno Klopfer: Mr. Wright had a generalized far advanced malignancy involving the lymph nodes, lymphosarcoma. The patient had tried every available form of medicine and his condition had hopelessly deteriorated to the point where he was bedridden and gasping for air. [The doctors] agreed that he had only a few days to live. Then the man heard about an experimental drug called Krebiozen, which was in the process of being tested. He insisted on being included in the experimental trials. His doctors, feeling he had nothing to lose and would soon be dead anyway, out of compassion greed to give him the experimental drug. To their amazement, the man's tumors soon began to shrink dramatically and he was discharged from the hospital. Two months later, the man read news accounts of the research on Krebiozen that reported serious doubts with the drug. Within a matter of days, the man's tumors had returned and were again threatening his life. His doctor cleverly convinced him that a new and more potent shipme nt had been received and proceeded to give him injections of plain water. His tumors once again began to shrink dramatically. He remained healthy for seven more months until another news report declared 'Nationwide AMA Tests Show Krebiozen to Be Worthless as a Cancer Treatment.' The man died within two days (4). One can see that the connection between the nervous system and the immune system is quite important, especially in the way that attitudes and emotions are processed by and can at the same time affect physiological or biochemical change.

Safe Activity

Another roles to collect the team details, e. G. The amount of players, permission slips. Manager make sure everything goes to plan and everyone is okay and understand what's happening though-out the day. The manager also gives specific Job to his/her staff. Safety Officer This role is very important as they produce the risk assessment for the sport taking sports and the facility around it, to ensure that there a minimize risk of any injuries to happening whilst taking part in the physical activity. It's important to have a risk assessment in place as if an injury does happen the tournament could be shut down and the people who ran it could get sued. The safety officer is also in charge of first aid arrangements for the day. This is very important as if this is not in place then the people can get sued for not having the right equipment. For example if someone feel over and cut their knee, and a first eider wasn't on side to deal with it and it got infected, the participant could beco me Organizer The organizer is responsible for sorting out the schedule for the day and what Jobs here needs to be.E. G. Umpires, runners (get score cards), first eider. If this isn't done the tournament wouldn't run smoothly as everything/everyone would be unrecognized and not sure what going on. Another role of the organizer is to record the results. Again this need to be done correctly as if it is not then a team might have scored more goals than they have put down and could cost them a place in the ranking. Sports leader The role of the sports leaders are to check all the equipment and make sure they are safe to use and the facility is in good condition and there are no risks where artisans could get hurt. This important as if the equipment isn't check and ends up being not safe it could cause serious harm to the participants taking part. If a piece of equipment is broke or damaged it shouldn't be used or taken out of the facility by the sports leader. Coaches The role of a coach is to look after their teams from the start to end of the tournament, making sure their team players knew when they were playing. What pitch they were playing on. Where the toilets, first eider, refreshments areas SECT. They also have the responsibilities to make sure all the participants are safe and one of the participants go missing.Umpire The role of the umpire is to officiate in the games at the tournament. They need to know the knowledge of the rules and keep on top of the scoring in the tournament. The role of the official manger is to create the rules for the tournament. This needs to be done correctly so that everyone understand them and can enforce them. Another role is to officiate the tournament too, this means he needs to make sure they are, sending letters home to parents, teams available and want to take part, make sure they have a good facility, correct equipment etc.Another role of an official manger is to have the important information for each participant. For exa mple consent forms, so the participants hurt themselves then they can contact the parents/careers and explain to them what happened. Within the consent form they should ask for any medical history. You should do this is because gives a better understanding what you need to be aware of. For an example if a child has a condition such as asthma and the organizers don't know about it, the child could be in serious harm if he doesn't have a pump with him and the first aid team onto know what pump the child can have.On the form you gave the children to take home you should make it aware about being all types of clothing and footwear which would be appropriate for different weather. For example if it's hot weather, advice participants to wear sun cream and bring plenty of fluids and a hat. This is important as children can become dehydrated very easily and if drinks facilities are not on offer then dehydration could occur. You also tell the parents they no Jewelry should be warm this can b e extremely dangerous in netball. Safety of the FacilitiesWhen preparing a sports tournament, the following considerations should be Made for the facilities in which the session is to take place: Coaches and leaders must familiarize themselves and the participants with the safety and emergency procedures specific to the facility and activity A full risk assessment should be undertaken, reviewed and updated for the facility and activity DO Reviewing the Tournament Sports organizers must consider action that is preventative and is documented in the risk assessment. I'm not going to review the Netball risk assessment. Injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrencesCollect data on the type, frequency and nature of any injuries will help you to see if you risk assessment is doing its Job and minimizing the risk within the facility. Also the facility is safe and appropriate for the sports activity which is taking place. This information can be found in accident books and RIDDED document, it's also very important to write down any near misses that has happened and the reason why it dangerous, this would show good sports organizer. By looking at the risk assessment you can see that every risk has had taken action to minimize the risk. You can see hat they do have a first aid room where any injuries that have happen are delta with in that room. This is also where the accident room,Rolled is found. Suitability of group for activity and effectiveness of briefing Good sports leaders/coaches will review the effectiveness of each session taken place, to find out if their session goals where achieved and whether the activity suitable for the participant who ever taken part. Before a session you talk to everyone involve and explain what happens in case of an emergency and what the session entitles, and what happens if any rules are broken. The review should include weather the participants have understood what has been said should take place during the session and not at the en d. At the end of the session an overall review of suitability to the activity should take place. Suitability of equipment and facility. Before starting the session it's important to select the appropriate equipment for the participants who are taking part in the session plan. E. G. Children use different use football compared to adults, has different size goals and pitches. The best way to make sure you are following the correct guidelines is by the national governing body f Netball. You sure also make sure the equipment safe too, a review should be taken place during the activity so the observed the safety and suitability of the equipment. But also to observed the safety and suitable of the facility. You can see in the plan that the facility had a storage room where all the equipment go. Positive Looking back at the tournament I feel like it went well and the event overall was a success. One of the positive comments I received is that the girls enjoyed taking part and taking part in the competition.Through-out the day I went round to all the different teams to see if they needed alp with anything and to see if they were enjoying themselves. All of the girls and their coaches said yes. This made me feel like a successfully planned the event which proved a have good organization skills. The next positive comment I received was the is layout of the tournament was good, everything was very clear. E. G. The number of the court, where the toilet are SECT. This made me feel like I picked the best venue to hold the tournament. A positive out of the tournament was the umpires. They done a great Job in keeping up with play, timing the games, keeping the score and knowing the rules of the Ames throughout the day. Without the referees the event couldn't have gone ahead as no one would have refereed the games Another positive out of the tournament was the first aid available. They were very quick to react to any injuries that occurred throughout the day. This was important to eiders, we would have been stuck if there was an injury as no one would know how to deal with it. Improvements If I were to do this event again I would have more organizers to control the amount of children there was on the day of the tournament. As there were a lot of artisans and by having more organizer it would of made the day run more smoothly as I give each team a organizer to tell where they are going next and where anything is . An area I could improve on for the tournament was the refreshments. I only had one refreshment stall which was quite big, but there wasn't enough workers in there, therefore it took longer to serve people . This is important to improve so people get served and the there isn't a queue of people as this could cause someone to get a injury. For example someone pushing in the queue and end up pushing someone over and then them injuring themselves. The way I got this feedback from the tournament was a questionnaire which I gave to each team to fill out. This was a real help in finding out how people found the day and the tournament itself. Below is the results of the questionnaire. MM – Plan safe sporting activities for a range of sporting environments and DO evaluate the safety of a selected sports activity Attached on the drop box is 3 risk assessments that cover different sporting environments for this part of the assignment. The three risk assessments I done were: Sports Field Risk Assessment (rounder's) Sports hall Risk Assessment (football) Mountain biking Risk Assessment
